The Faces of Aging
A Look at Aging Through Animals
In the March 2012 AARP Bulletin there was an article that really touched me. It highlights a Philadelphia photographer Isa Leshko who studied and photographed older animals. She cared for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, and started to feel anxious about her self growing old. She came across a 35-year-old blind horse named Petey and she spent a day photographing him. She says “As I reviewed the film, I realized I had found a means of expressing how I was feeling about my mother’s illness.” These images are extraordinary and help each of us deal with the anxieties of growing old. Let me know your thoughts about this exhibit and how it effects you. Her work will be on display at the Houston Center for Photography April 27 through June 16.
Sharp HospiceCare Regatta
This weekend my husband and I attended the Ninth Annual Sharp Hospice Regatta on Coronado. The weekend started with a delicious and beautiful dinner at the Hotel del Coronado. The regatta brought together community organizations, families and volunteers to benefit and support Sharp HospiceCare’s “Homes for Hospice”. This is a unique initiative to build residential hospice homes in San Diego county. On Saturday we boarded a gorgeous, custom yacht to watch the sailboat races. There were about 15 yachts going out to watch the races. This was an amazing event to attend and support.
Lifesaving Information for Emergencies
The Vial of LIFE program is a free service we provide our client families. Its purpose is to provide you with an easy way to store medical information at home. Who should have a Vial of LIFE in your family? Actually everyone, because medical emergencies can happen to anyone at any time. Research shows that 58% of emergency calls calls are from seniors. Let’s be sure that our elderly at home are prepared. If there is no trained personal assistant to help, there is often panic, confusion and a helpless sense of urgency and fear. The Vial of LIFE can not replace having a trained caregiver on site, but it will give valid information on conditions and medications. This information will be written and ready to be used by EMT’s.
Caregiver Support
February 1 will mark the start of a series of classes offered to provide options and opportunities to learn about what care services are available in our community and help you plan for your future.
In conjunction with Tierrasanta Village of San Diego, http://www.tierrasantavillage.org/ a not-for-profit organization and Love 2 Live Care Services we will be meeting to discuss topics around elder care, helping the family caregiver, home assistance and many more subjects. We will meet the first Tuesday of the month at the Tierrasanta Village Storefront at 10615-D Tierrasanta Blvd.
Tierrasanta Village of San Diego (TVSD) is a not-for-profit organization tailored for Tierrasanta residents (who have celebrated their 50th birthdays), and based on the Beacon Hill Village membership model (beaconhillvillage.org). When fully operational, TVSD will offer its members many of the activities and concierge services available in high-quality adult communities. The commitment is to enable resident members to live life to its fullest in their own homes as they age.
If you’re interested in learning more about senior home care services then join us for the first in the series on February 1. Call us at 619-291-4663 if you need further information.
Love 2 Make Music

Love 2 Live Care Services and MusicWorx teamed up in November for an unforgettable experience that can help you discover how to use music to live your life to the fullest. Music therapy is a powerful and non-threatening medium which can create unique outcomes. Music therapy is used successfully with all ages and disabilities. Music is a form of sensory stimulation, which provokes responses due to familiarity, predictability, and feelings of security associated with it.
